Kevin Raber RIP

I know this is not exactly Nikon related, but I have been following Kevin Raber and his Photo PXL website since he stated it in 2019.
When I was starting my photography journey, I was a fan of Micheal Reichmann. Michael started The Luminous Landscape website in 1999 and I would visit every week to see what he was writing about. I soon became a fan, reading his camera and lens reviews regularly. After Micheal passed away in 2016, a close friend of his, Kevin Raber, took over his website. That didn’t last long. Micheal Reichmann’s son wanted to take exclusive control of The Luminous Landscape and in essence, kicked Kevin out of the website. Soon after, in 2019, Kevin created his own site, www.PhotoPXL.com
As reported on PhotoPXL today, Kevin passed away after a series of strokes. RIP Kevin. We will miss all of your many projects, the lectures on how important it is to print your work, the many camera and lens reviews not written, and of course, the workshops you hosted.
As posted on PhotoPXL:
Our community lost a champion today.
Following a series of strokes over the past 48 hours, Kevin has passed away in Indianapolis.
As I look at the letters ‘RIP’ that are placed over his photograph, I realize of course that the last thing Kevin would do is rest.
Kevin was a man of boundless energy and enthusiasm with a true passion – combined in a soul uniquely joyous and tender.
He leaves his wife Debra, sister Christine and sons Kevin, Bobby & Scott, his step-son and -daughter Maxwell & Claire and granddaughters Mia, Ellie & Frances – and so many friends & colleagues. Lastly his beloved dog Maggie and the cats Ansel, Jupiter & Nova.
I will create a ‘virtual’ Book of Remembrance on the PhotoPXL forum for friends and readers to share their memories of Kevin
In sorrow,
Chris Sanderson

Let me know in the comments below if you have ever visited PhotoPXL prior to his death or took one of his many workshops.
Nikon posted to their youtube channel over 8 hours of their Nikon ambassador inspiring presentations at this year’s Wedding & Portrait Photographers International event in Las Vegas. The average length of each presentation is roughly 30 minutes.
With the Nikon Z9 going on 5 years old, it’s time to start to speculate what the Nikon Z9II specifications might be. With an estimated release date sometime in late 2025 or early 2026, it appears that now is a good time to start documenting what changes and improvements are needed with the Nikon Z9 II
After receiving the Nikon Z5II, I immediately took it out for a test drive. I could not be more pleased with the results of this little gem of a camera. Check back often since I will be adding to this collection periodically.
Let me know in the comments if you have any questions. Unless otherwise noted, all photos shot with the Nikon Z5II and the Nikkor 180-600mm f/6.3 Z lens.
With yet another Z9 firmware release (ver 5.20), I thought I would put together a comprehensive guide to all 14 of the Z9 updates to date. This also serves as a historical record of how far the Z9 has come, starting with its firmware at birth with version 1.00.
I’m excited to share that I now have the Nikon Z5II camera body as part of my gear list. Stay tuned for a complete review of this little champion of a camera as I put it through it’s paces.

What would be a killer feature that would knock it out of the park for Nikon’s next generation flagship camera and that would reduce the number of white lenses seen out and about among photographers? A feature that would be so sought after that Canon and Sony users would flock back to Nikon in droves? How about something that would force the photography world to look and ask them self’s: Why didn’t I think of that? What would such a feature be?
As a full time Capture One user (no Adobe products for me), I’m eagerly waiting for May 8th, 2025. For that is the date of their new product announcement. I have no idea what features could be announced but if they are saying “Their biggest update ever” I’m assuming it’s going to be truly big.
No one can dispute the fact that the Nikon Z5 was getting very stale in Nikon’s lineup and desperately needed a refresh in order to continue to lure photographers into Nikon’s camera and lens ecosystem. Well today, Nikon delivered that much needed update. Lets explore the details.
Chris was a Nikon ambassador from 2018-2024. I haven’t been able to find any reasons why Hershman left or was asked to leave by Nikon. It’s hard to know if Chris is still active in photography or videography. The last post on his facebook page was in 2023.

I was finally able to take out the new Nikon COOLPIX P1100 for a test ride at high altitude plane spotting, one of my favorite uses of Nikon’s super telephoto cameras. The SWISS airliner ( flight SWR38K) that was flying high overhead was traveling from Zurich to San Francisco.
Robert G Allen Photography received the Nikon P1100 camera from Nikon today. Stay tune for a complete review of this super telephoto camera.
Here are a few motocross photos as part of our first outing with the P1100 camera today.

Well, that was a surprise. New firmware for the Z6II and Z7II. Unfortunately, no new features were included. We go from version 1.62 to 1.70
