Today, NASA released a new photo of earth as the crew of the Artemis II speeds towards the moon. It was taken with the Nikon D5 with the Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 lens at 22mm. Exposure info was f/4 at ¼ sec at ISO 51200. The image was taken by NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman, Artemis II commander.

In my opinion, the image has a lot of noise. I think that was the whole point of bringing the D5, the smaller resolution sensor would mean lower noise as compared to the Z9. This is still an impressive view for sure. I’m not sure what the highlight is around the right hand side.

Either way, I’m proud to be associated with a camera brand that is good enough to be used on mission critical space adventures!

Let me know in the comments below what you think of the photo. Too much noise? Would you have used a different exposure? Let me know in the comments below (no sign-in required).
