Nikon Z5II Sample Photos: Updated 10/12/2025 with new photos!
After receiving the Nikon Z5II, I immediately took it out for a test drive. I could not be more pleased with the results of this little gem of a camera. Check back often since I will be adding to this collection periodically.
Let me know in the comments if you have any questions.
The Tycho Crater on the Moon as seen by the Super telephoto Nikon COOLPIX P1100 at 3,000mm
October 7th was the annual harvest moon. Where I was located, the atmosphere was very clear so I thought I would take out the Nikon COOLPIX P1100 and see what I could capture. This image has not been cropped and the P1100 was fully racked out at 3000mm. It was run through Topaz with noise reduction and minor sharpening.
With his Nikon Z9, photographer Prasenjeet Yadav gets the National Geographic Magazine cover shot
Using his Nikon Z9, photographer Prasenjeet Yadav gets the October 2025 cover shot for National Geographic Magazine.
From Nat Geo: “Prasenjeet Yadav had one goal: capture the perfect image of a pseudo-melanistic tiger for his story on India’s Similipal Tiger Reserve. Easier said than done.” Well maybe easier said than done with another camera, but not if you have the Nikon Z9.
Nikon Z6II Mirrorless Camera Resource Center
Here, you will find everything I could scrape together about this gem of a camera. I love my Nikon Z6II mirrorless camera. I hope this page serves as an inspiration as to what can be accomplished with the Z6II.
Nikon removes the Speedlight SB-500 from its flash lineup.
Nikon is no longer producing or selling the SB-500 Speedlight small flash unit. I have the flash and I use it for family events. It’s small and light and is powered by 2 double AA batteries.
Today, Nikon announces new Ultra-compact Binoculars
Nikon claims these are the thinnest, lightest binoculars in Nikon’s history.
Today, Nikon removes the COOLPIX P1000 from their lineup
I find it really strange that Dpreview has the Nikon P1000 listed on their current MOST POPULAR CAMERAS list which is based on cameras that are frequently mentioned, discussed, or purchased by their readership, indicating high interest or demand from photographers. If the P1000 has been replaced, why isn’t the COOLPIX P1100 being mentioned more due to the fact that it is the newer replacement model.
Today, Nikon issues new Z8 firmware 3.10
Again, first reported by Robert G Allen Photography, new firmware for the Z8. The changes in version 3.10 are as follows:
Will Nikon release a Nikon Z7III? I think so and here are the possible rumored specs of the Nikon Z7III (Updated 09/13/2025 with new sensor spec)
With a release date of October 2020, the Z7II offers plenty of opportunity for updates and changes, much of which are overdue. Just like the Z6III, I think similar changes could be made to the Z7II to bring it up to date with the release of the Z7III. Here is what I think could the specs of a refreshed Nikon Z7II could be.
Charlie Kirk event photos
Considering what has happened recently, I thought I would share a few of my photos of Charlie Kirk. Back in 2020, I was retained to provide photography coverage at a Turing Point USA event. These are a few of the photos from that event. This post is in no way endorsing or being critical of certain political views. It is only to share photos from a photography event assignment.
Today, Nikon releases major new firmware update for the Nikon Z6III, birds added to subject detection
Today, as first reported by Robert G Allen Photography, Nikon releases major new firmware 2.0 for the Nikon Z6III camera.
Today, Nikon announces the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II lens
Nikon Inc. has announced the release of the new NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II, a standard zoom lens that is compatible with full-frame/FX format mirrorless cameras. This second generation of the acclaimed NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S brings enhancements to image quality, speed and handling, further improving upon a lens that was already a popular choice for all types of imaging professionals.
Robert G Allen Photography takes delivery of Nikon’s professional zoom trinity of lenses
Robert G Allen Photography recently took delivery of Nikon’s professional zoom trio or as I like to call these 3 lenses, Nikon’s Trinity. I will be posting sample photos as I get more usage out of these 3 premium lenses. In the meantime, here are a few sample images from a recent event assignment:
National Geographic produces documentary about Nikon Ambassador Lynsey Addario
I love seeing all that Nikon gear hanging from her in the movie poster for the documentary Love and War, a doc about Lynsey Addario as she covers the Ukraine war and other conflicts around the world. The movie is produced by Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin.
With the 2026 Olympic Winter Games 6 months away, could that also be the timeline for the release of the Nikon Z9II?
I was reminded recently that the winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy were only 6 months away. And 6 months seems like a reasonable timeline for the release of the Z9II. What better timing I thought than right before the Olympic games!
Today, Nikon releases new version of Nikon NX Studio photo editing software
Hot off the press is a new version of NX Studio. This version includes fixes for the following and raises the version number to 1.9.1
Today, Nikon issued new firmware updates for both the flagship D6 DSLR and D780 DSLR
These are very limited firmware updates but it’s good to know that Nikon is still caring about their legacy DSLR cameras, at least currently. I have owned and used both of these cameras and they are both DSRL perfected. I would have stayed with the D6 but the shutter was too loud!
Photographing an ultra trail race with the Z8 and Nikon’s trio of affordable f/2.8 zoom lenses
I was recently retained to provide event photography coverage of the 2025 Standhope Ultra Challenge near Sun Valley Idaho. It’s considered one of the highest trail races in the US Northwest with elevations reaching over 11K feet within the Pioneer mountains of Idaho. This is not a course for the faint of heart!
As I predicted, Nikon replaces their Z8 3.0 firmware with 3.01
As I predicted, due to all the 3rd party lens issues, Nikon issues firmware 3.01 for the Z8 camera.
