Charlie Kirk event photos

Considering what has happened recently, I thought I would share a few of my photos of Charlie Kirk. Back in 2020, I was retained by Turning Point USA to provide photography coverage at a Charlie Kirk event. These are a few of the photos from that event. This post is in no way endorsing or being critical of certain political views. It is only to share photos from a photography event assignment. I have done both Republican and Democratic related assignments over the years.

My assignment was to capture Charlie speaking at the podium and taking group shots of attendees posing with Charlie on stage and providing the event photos to Turing Point USA.

The lighting at this venue was at best horrible. There were no stage lights of any kind, just ambient light that was mostly lighting audience members. I tried to color balance these as best as I could in Capture One. They also have been run through the latest version of Topaz to reduce the horrid noise and increase sharpness of the photos.

As for the Nikon equipment I was using back then, the D780 was my favorite DSLR events camera of all time due to the fact that you could change it into mirrorless mode on the fly (by using the rear LCD display as your primary viewfinder) which reduced the shutter noise. Essentially, you could turn it into a Z6II and then back to a D780. Incidentally, I still have the Nikon Nikkor AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR lens. It’s great for capturing people at podiums. I’m sure Nikon will come out with a mirrorless equivalent of this lens eventually.

In closing, I never expected one of my clients to be assassinated but sadly this is the world we live in now.
